It's exactly a month and five days I M using TREK 3700. Done 350 odd Kilometers with half the distance on rough terrains in the Mountains.
Have a look at the Images of both bikes on my earlier posts
Cost : TREK 3700 -Rs.13500/- Octane DTB1 - Rs. 5500/-
Frame ; TREK has Alpha Aluminum frame which is tough and light weight. The simple geometry of TREK frame is appealing. The matte Black color looks great.
Handle Bar Setting : Bontrager 105mm, 25 degrees Rise.I have turned the Handle Bar Stem Up side down so that the there 25 degrees drop, this gives a sporty look and I find this setting convenient on the climbs.
Gears :The bike has Shimano Acera 21 speed gears (A much Higher version as compared to the one on Octane). I had to fine tune the gears.
Shifters : EeZee fire shifters. These shifters are much better than the grip shifters I had on my Hero Octane.
The Gear Ratios are fantastic, this is probably due to bigger chain ring. I could really never pick great speed on the Octane.
Shocks : Only front shocks. RST 191 shocks have 63mm travel and are much much better as compared to the ones I had on the Octane. Octane had full suspension, but I prefer this Hard tail TREk
Tires : Bontrager 26"x2.0", ( the shop mechanic had fitted them in opposite direction) .I am not happy with the tires on my TREK, I was disappointed by it's loose grip on rough mountain climbs, I had 8 punctures on my 20 rides. Surprisingly The Hero Octane Had Better Tires, But then thats the only one point on which Octane Scores Over TREK.
Accessories :
1)Giyo mini pump fits on the frame. (Rs.200/-)
2)Water bottle with frame fitting cage (the cage I bought at local cycle shop, the original dealer was unable to supply one).(Bottle 130/-, cage 30/-)
3) A seat pack that I made using Fast track Sunglass Case, it carries all the necessary tools including Puncture Repair kit.
Over all fill : The TREK 3700 is a great bike though in India we find 13500/- a bit higher price for a cycle, but I am quite happy and satisfied with my purchase.
Note : If U R thinking seriously to take up mountain biking better learn some cycle mechanics, the Mechanics at the shop have Half Baked Knowledge even though they claim to be 'Trained'.
